12 Feb 06 - Forward Fuselage, Subpanel Putterings

Today we're going to start getting the forward fuselage together, match drilled, and all that. Ideally, we'll be able to get this thing together pretty quickly so that we can start on the wiring.

Forward fuselage together and painted - as you can see, it looks like the normal interior color from here . . .
. . . but when you look behind the panel, it's gloss white. This seems to have come out pretty well.
Front skin has been clecoed on there and match drilled. A few of the holes didn't quite line up, so now they're a bit elongated now. It'll be interesting to see how well that pans out.
Last time we put the labels on the subpanel, they looked great until we got them into the plane. Then it was obvious they were too high up - you could only read the bottom 2/3 of the word when you were sitting in the plane. Here, we're putting new labels in slightly farther down.
Putting the panel on, to see how this all fits now that the forward skin is on there.
Oh, this is interesting, and not in a good way: the forward skin being match drilled and attached seems to have pulled everything down just a bit - these holes no longer line up.

The alignment problem with the panel frame is weird enough that we decided to call Van's. Talking to Van's about this issue wasn't really a whole lot of help, really. They didn't think to seem that it was actually much of a problem. However, it's worth noting that when the top skin is not on, then this lines up just fine. I guess we'll see how this goes over the next few days.
