26 Jan 05 - Finish Kit Arrival

The finish kit showed up this morning, and my dad and I were at home to meet it. By a happy coincidence, the contractor that works on my parents' house was there at the same time, so between all of us, it wasn't much of a problem to get it off the truck. The driver just sort of watched us. Shipping from Van's to where we are (Alabama) was about $500.

With all three of us working (thanks mom and dad!) we were able to get the parts inventoried that evening. It'll be awhile before everything's organized, but at least we know that everything's here.

Right off the truck - we need to at least open it before we all head back to work.
Nicely packed - lots of padding, and it looks like nothing got damaged en route. You can see the cowling and the canopy in there, too.
Gradually stuff is coming out of the box - you can see wheel pants, tires, the top half of the cowl, etc.
Here's the cowling. Looks like it'll need a bit of trimming before it fits together nicely, but that's to be expected.
I'm not real sure if this is where this part is supposed to go . . . looks cool, though.

For what it's worth, the canopy that showed up (that it looks like I forgot to take a good picture of) was slightly tinted. This is what I was hoping for, but I completely forgot to call Van's and ask if this was standard before the kit just showed up. So, if you're wondering if you don't ask, if you get a tinted canopy - yup, looks like you do.

We'll be probably organizing stuff for awhile, and then it's back to fuselage work, at least for now.
